On a cold Northern winter’s night, a knock at the door and the jingle of bells signal the arrival of the Julbock, or Yule Goat. Scandinavian tradition has seen the Julbock as a mischief maker and the bringer of gifts for Yule and then for Christmas before Santa Claus. Julebukking saw villagers ranging from house to house in a goatskin and mask, requiring treats and drinks from the owner, who had to guess who was in disguise. This Julbock’s costume seems awfully realistic…
